Over
the past few weeks, Alcor has had a total of three cases. This has been
quite the busy time for all staff and is certainly busier than the last
several months have been for cases. The CEO details one case in the
above link and I am going to spend the next few paragraphs detailing the
amazing work that was done with two other cases.
The
first case was A-1404 in Texas. We received a Telemed alert and quickly
jumped into action. We deployed Suspended Animation (SA), they booked
their flight within an hour of notification, and were on the plane with
equipment loaded in less than five hours. Even with multiple
layovers and mechanical issues, they still arrived within four hours
before care was withdrawn from the patient. Working through the
night, our patient arrived hours later well packed in a
Ziegler. Sayer Johanson, Operations Manager of SA, said, “This was
Suspended Animation's first case working with Alcor's new Medical
Response Director, Blake Honiotes, and CEO, Patrick Harris, on a full
member deployment. Although the deployment notification came with
minimal notice, this was one of the quickest and most straight forward
cases that we have been a part of, mostly due to the cooperation between
the two organizations. Alcor was able to provide SA with the necessary
resources and team members who were able to coordinate logistics and
information gathering for SA while we were en route to the patient's
bedside. This not only saved our team time in expediting the release of
the member into our care but also provided the groundwork to make sure
that the member got the best care possible. This is exactly how all
casework should be managed and only serves as a means to strengthen
relationships between the organizations." The teamwork and seamlessness
of all involved was truly a sight to be seen.
The
second case was A-3360 in California. This case was a third-party
post-mortem signup. We were able to deploy International Cryomedicine
Experts (ICE) to perform patient retrieval and initiate cooldown. ICE
was in CA within hours, maintained dry ice temps, and packed the patient
for transport to Alcor better than many staff members had ever seen.
While Eric Vogt was working on the CA case, he was even willing to
transition the final logistical details of delivery to his staff and fly
to Texas if we needed his assistance there. Fortunately, SA was able to
make it, but his willingness to jump from one case to another without
rest is a statement of his dedication to our mission. Finally, when
the Texas case arrived at Alcor he was right there, alongside the rest
of the OR staff. Eric said, “We were excited to be able to assist Alcor
on another case. Even though this was a last-minute request, Alcor and
ICE were able to work collaboratively to ensure the best outcome under
unusual circumstances.”
Both
cases highlight the incredible collaborative effort that our
contractors put into working with Alcor. We truly would not be able to
do everything we do without them. I am eternally grateful for being able
to work alongside the brightest minds and the hardest workers in
Cryonics. We have multiple successes behind us, and I am looking forward
to achieving many more.
